Probably not. Think about it from the criminal's pointy of view. The death penalty is really a remote idea, because:
A) The person needs to be apprehended (most criminals believe that they'll get away with whatever they're doing, so getting caught isn't an issue for them);
B) Once caught, they need to be convicted.
C) Once convicted, they need to be sentenced to death.
D) once sentenced, they need to exhaust all appeals.
So, in reality, the threat of death is so remote that it probably doesn't serve as an effective deterrent for most criminals.

I can't help but think of Tookie Williams. This monster managed to have a whole bunch of people murdered while still behind bars by running his disgusting gang of cuththroats. But, his execution put an end to all that.
The death penalty is the ultimate method of stopping criminals from committing crime.

Statistics seem to indicate it is not, but only serves to brutalize crime even further as criminals try to "cover up" their crimes in fear of the death penalty.

No, most of the time criminals believe that they will get away with the crime committed, but either way they are corrupt in mind. there are two ways of looking at it. One, is the convicted criminal a relative, if so, would you want him dead. Two, is the criminal the one who hurt you.

It apparently is not- but I'd rather spend my tax dollars executing a murderer than clothing,housing and feeding him/ her for the rest of their natural life.
