I put a frozen dinner in the microwave and it made a strange beeping sound. Then I smelled smoke and I'm wondering if it was an electrical problem and if I should be worried about it starting a fire. This was yesterday and I haven't used it since.

You know what I would just buy a new one . They are not nearly
as expensive as they use to be.I would not risk burning the house down.( *-*)

Electrical smoke has distinctive smell as compared to say burning a piece of paper or the like. Either way, if it wasnt your food that was burning, you'd be best off to replace the microwave. They are relatively inexpensive these days. Hopefully your just talking about a plug in model as oppo$ed to a built in type.

It's broken. Throw it out and go buy a new one. You can get a really good new one for about $60.
