The suggestions provided by other people are informative and should be considered. I have a 1993 Honda Civic EG Hatch and also has the same limitation on the uphill. I have a B15 engine. I've spoken with Honda about this and this is what they told me. Honda engines for cars particularly on the entry-level models that comes out in the market is meant for city & highway driving. In order to be economical they were designed to have maximum torque (force x moment arm). Good for leveled plain but bad for inclined plain. In order words, acceleration for uphill is low due to the config. You can try boosting power but to a certain limit. Hope I help a little. Good luck.

All what everyone else says is good. The tranny fluid may be bad. It depends if you have an automatic or a manual. I have an automatic on my honda accord 95 and i havent changed the fluid and filter for as long as the car has been around. As a matter of fact, people tell me that if i do replace it, then i will have problems with my system. I went with that and i was all right. I think its ur tranny fluid cuz you allready are having problems.
As for your fuel filter, it is usually on the bottom but considering you already checked. Sometimes, i have noticed in perticular. Hondas. Have it on the inside of their car. It is along side the rear wall inside the hood. Check. Locate your fuel rail and follow the fat line and see where it goes. I worked ony my accord and my buddy's 00 civic. Both of them were on the inside of the car.

if its a manual....sounds like your clutch might be starting to slip.
if automatic, maybe your transmission fluid is low or you really need to change the fluid and filter.
the fuel filter is located next to the gas tank. crawl under the car and look for a red braided line coming off the tank into a small almost golf ball size round box....filter is in there. use some locking plyers to cut off the fuel on both sides of the box prior to taking filter out so you don't get gas all over the place. should be just two hose clamps holding it on inside the box.

Your telling us that this P.O.S honda has 300,000 miles on it and you never changed the fuel filter. I call BS. And 36 mpg sucks. My 1988 Pontiac Fiero get 42mpg. Your problem my be in the fuel system get it cleaned from the tank to the intake and maybe that should help. Also try new plugs, wire, coils, cap and rotor, oil change "tune up".

When was the last tune up? Is it stick or auto? That could be the culprit have all filters changed gas, air, tanny. Change the tranny fluid.
