This is a true blue strategy for Quality as well as cheapness. When buying any new game system, is is always best to let the first wave of systems pass you by. Not that the companies do it on purpose, but most new and coming systems are riddles with bugs and different small defects that are usually fixed in second and third generations, just look at the PS2 and Xbox 360 releases. Many PS2's began to lose functionality in their CD reading capabilities after a few months, and some Xbox 360 were known to fry, however, when the next generations came out, the systems were a lot better off.

Besides waiting for quality, to get a nice deal on a system you can play the streets, places like Flea Markets and websites like Half.com or eBay, will almost definitely have some once it is released, and the beauty of places like Flea Markets is you can always barter. The risk you run however, sadly, is that these people aren't here to give you a great deal, they want to make money too, so if you don't know how to look, you could end up getting ripped off. A note of positive personal experience however, was shortly after the Nintendo DS Lites were released I managed to snag the $130+ system online (Half.com) for $107 including shipping and handling, brand new, factory sealed.

However, for Quality, and Cheapness, best way I can suggest is to again, wait for the first wave to pass, then trade in any unused games and systems to lessen the price of the system, and buy one from an EB Games. The price will be cheaper and since it is a second wave, it will usually be a bit easier to get ahold of too.

Start saving money. When you collect the price of the PS3, for sure you will be able to buy a newer version that fixes the usual problems of the first models.

Save up your money and buy it when the price drops way down. That's my strategy.

Well I suggest that you take your ps2 and if you have that dust collector xbox, and any games that you don't need to a store like EB where they accept trade and you see what you can get for trade, towards the PS3
