I accidently dropped my pet hamster down the toilet at the weekend, before I had realised what I had done I had flushed.

Will she survive and if so, how good are a Hamster's homing insticts, will she find her way back to me?

it was only a short flush and I have a brick in the cistern.

Amazing Update: Sheila (my hamster) has just been deliveried by a stranger who says they found here in a near by gutter, she is a little wetter and browner than she used to be, but she's back!!! Seems they can swim (or at least hold their breath), I'm glad now that I branded our post code on her back.

I think your poor, poor hamster might have died!

Think maybe next time, dont take your hamster near the loo. :s

Plus i dont think hamsters have "homing insticts" as they only live in a cage, and are not taking out for walks, plus where on earth would he end up after being flushed!

Sorry sweetie, dont think there is much luck for your hamster! :(

Hamsters are renouned for there resillience in these sort of situations and they are water proof, also they have gills and use them when they need to. That is why they are sometimes also known as "Toilet swimming fishy cunning monkeys"

Yes, she can swin. Trouble is, there isn't much swimming actually involved in being flushed down the loo.

How can your hamster accidentally fall into the toilet and then accidentally you flushed the toilet?

Sounds like a RSPCA case to me.

Your hampster is DEAD! Hampsters can't possibly grow magic gills of some sort to breath under water! And their little hands are to short to paddle.Forget about it!
