Most laptops have a low hum to them, which is caused by the high speed fans running in them to cool them off. As long as the computer is running normally, it probably isn't a big deal. Just as a side note though, sometimes hard drives begin to hum as they go bad.

There are a few things you could look at. One is that the miniature fan have bearings on the shaft of the fan to help it turn smoothly with out friction and can lose oil lubrication over time which will have to work harder to keep turning to cool your lap top down that may make loud buzzing or griding noises. 2ndly, your hard drive, which is rare, it usually makes a whining noises when it not turning properly due to lost of balance or wobbles when turning. 3rdly, battery can make humming noises too, I think, was your laptop's battery part of the laptop battery recall when they mention a while ago on the news regarding battery causing fire hazard. I have had these things happen to me on my desk top computer before so I am not sure if the same applies to your lap top. I hope there nothing wrong with your lap top or just a minor thing, and good luck with finding it and fixing it.
