I was told that caffeine restricts blood vessels and causes the baby to get less oxygen. Which is bad.

Common sense should tell you that any of those sweets, caffeine filled, empty calorie foods and drinks are no good when you are not pregnant, what makes you think they are good when you are?Everything should be in moderation. A Doctor will tell you that one cup of coffee a day won't hurt but why test the waters. By the way, the young lady who said that it was a myth for women to get headaches in their second trimester, if they take caffeine and chocolate, you need to read more sweetie, because it is true for women with history of Migraine headaches. It may not apply for every pregnancy and every woman at any given time but it has happened nonetheless. I am pregnant now an in my second trimester and I can't touch caffeine and chocolate because I get migraines, really bad ones. Think of eating the wrong foods as it would be for you to take a drink of liquor or smoke a cigarette every day.

I am just going to quote someone here to better get the point across.
The March of Dimes (MOD 2002) notes that during pregnancy, caffeine easily passes from the mother to her unborn child through the placenta. Because the systems for breaking down and eliminating chemicals are not fully developed in the unborn child, blood levels of caffeine may remain elevated for longer periods in the unborn child compared to the mother. OTIS (OTIS 2001) notes that, "…higher amounts of caffeine could affect babies in the same way as it does adults. Some reports have stated that children born to mothers who consumed >500 mg/day were more likely to have faster heart rates, tremors, increased breathing rate, and spend more time awake in the days following birth."
I would not give my baby a sip of caffeine so I don't drink caffeine while pregnant or nursing

Well, first hand experience....I drank about a liter of mountain dew every day while i was pregnant. When my son was born a month ago, he constantly shook. Not violently, but it seems like there was always a part of his body that was shaking. To this day, he still shakes sometimes. His body is going through withdrawals. In my honest opinion and expereince, it would be better not to drink caffeine at all!! When I was pregnant with my oldest son, I drank alot of soda as well, but nothing happened to him. Just remember, caffeine is like a drug..literally!! As a previous poster had said : I wouldn't give my baby a sip of caffeine, so don't drink it while your pregnant. Good Luck!!

Nothing-just can make the baby more active. You are not supposed to drink them during the 1st trimester because of risk of miscarriage and you are not supposed to ever drink alot of caffeine-but some is ok.I was drinking pop with caffeine until week 21 when I started having contractions and my doc said no more caffeine for the rest of my pregnancy.

I read that more than 300mg of caffeine a day can be linked to miscarriage but there is no evidence it causes birth defects. Heavy intakes during the last weeks can cause the newborn baby to experience withdrawal symptoms such as being more unsettled and irritable. So id say any more than this amount isn't such a good idea but any less should be fine. I usually have no more than two classes of coke a day myself.

As long as you limit your intake of caffeine to either one 8 oz. cup of coffee or soda a day then you should be fine. My doctor said that small amounts of caffeine are ok just don't go overboard. I drank coffee throughout my pregnancy and everything was fine. My baby is a happy healthy 2 week old.
