If they really want to do it and put up with the abuse then why not. I think I understand where Newell is coming from but his mistake was making his feelings public. He only invited all the politically correct and womens groups to heap abuse on him so there was nothing to be gained. Maybe it will get the players to watch the language assuming they have any respect for women.

Why shouldn't a woman be a top referee? If she has the qualifications then she's the man or in this case the woman for the job. If Mike Newell had his own business and only gave jobs to men who might not have the qualifications and experience of a woman then he wouldn't last long as his own boss as he'd be out of business within a month. I think his comments stink and that is a mans view.

well women can do two things at once so that wud make offsides a lot easier. of cause women shud be involved. women can keep up with the game as much as men although they cudnt play against them. and it mite stop all the harassing the refs cos i dont think players wud run around and harass a woman in the same way they do the men. i think its a good advert for womens football which is taking off. mike newell shud go kiss his wifes ***

If I were a sexist, I'd answer "Yes, the bench!" but I'm more an equalist... If a woman is into the game and is willing to take her chances at getting hurt (same as the men), then why not? Or are you afraid to be beat by a "Girl?"

yes, if it was a guy, he wouldn't even have said anything. It's sexist and i didn't think that there were still guys out there who's so threatened by girls that they want to lock them up in a house and make them cook and clean. Men who can't cope with women in a work environment, or any where else for that matter...better learn to deal, cause it ain't gonna change...Stop feeling threatened guys ! and work WITH women, much higher heights can be reached in that manner.

As a woman and an avid SAINTS supporter, the answer has to be NO. Absolutely no way, especially in the Premiership or Championship, or any cup games. Its not sexist, its not politically incorrect, its just common sense, whatever next......jane and janice versus John and Jack.........please.

Absolutely. Newell was being most unpleasant. The only criterion is competence. Doesn't matter what gender you are if you can do it good luck. if not, **** off!

No they cannot leave anything alone. They are into rugby and even boxing. Let them officiate in women only events.
