Maple is a very good program.
It allows you to do various things from the basic addition, subtraction, etc, to sequences, plotting graphs, solving equations, solving matrices and to more complicated topics as animation, complex flow calculations, statistics, and maple programming etc...
The programs requires a lot of understanding to use efficentiently. A level maths and basic computing skills are required.
It is very fast but a good computer is need. Something with at least 512mb ram to have any chance in calulating the more complicated topics.
Maple retails for approximately £100 and is worth it.
I am using Maple for my university course in MSci Maths in the topic of Introduction to Mathematical Computing.
Some computers at my university are 2800+ sempron with 512mb and they handle maple fine but sometimes crash. The other computers are much better and handle Maple perfectly.
Hope this helps

At what level? Why not just buy a calculator? They're cheap and they're portable.
