Start with basics - make sure that your speakers are plugged in to the wall power (don't laugh, people often miss it) and that she sound jack is in the correct plug on your PC (out of the three identical ones, people often connect it into the wrong plug). Check your PCs volume settings to make sure that they are set high enough to hear and the 'mute' check box is not checked.

If you can, swap out speakers with a pair that have already been known to work; otherwise, it might be a failed sound card.
