I know what you mean. I have some family members that expect presents. It drives me crazy! But one of the relative is so close that I'd rather spend the money then risk not talking to them for months. I hate it. I love my family but I hate obligation. I wish I just felt like I wanted to spend the money on them. We are so broke.... I can't even tell you what kind of prison kissing a** and obligation puts you in as I'm sure you know. Next year we are doing no presents. This year we have cut out almost all of the visiting. I am starting my own traditions. I don't know if this is the kind of answer you were looking for but I have to thank you for leading me to these conclusions. Thank you!

Are your parents the type that won't accept you for who you are? I assume that since you're posting here, it's because you're homosexual or bisexual. Please forgive me if I'm mistaken.
Here's the way I look at it (and this is from a Christian viewpoint):
If and when my husband and I have children, I hope that I'm loving enough that IF they ever came to me and told me that they were having homosexual or bisexual feelings, that I would continue to love them.
I disagree with the lifestyle. BUT, I have friends who aren't straight. They know where I stand on it, but they also know that I love them anyway, because they're good people. They also know that I don't want to hear about what they do behind closed doors. It's none of my business, and I just don't need to hear it.
I hope I'd be the same way towards my kids.
Perhaps you should go ahead and sit down with them, and hope for the best. Just be prepared for the consequences. I'll be praying for you, that whatever decision you make is the right one, for you and for your family.
Best of luck to you.

I am not a azz kisser but I can and do admit when I am in the wrong. Once the apology is offered and accepted the problem or disagreement should be done. I will never continue to beg for forgiveness. Someone who loves you would never do that unless it was something extremely serious.

given the category of this question, is this implying that you have to placate relatives for your sexual orientation?
I would advise against it. Not only are you not being true to yourself, but you're somehow legitimizing any criticism or opinions that are being leveled your way.
If you're afraid of rocking the boat, then simply state that it would be "untrue to myself to dignify that with a response" and walk away.

I'm not out to kiss anyone's ***. Treat people the way you want to be treated, show respect if they give it, if they don't, then screw them. Just don't be fake and kiss up.

"as far as is possible WITHOUT SURRENDER, be on good terms with all men." Don't be confrontational but no need to take a ration of s... either.
