Your question was quite vague, but here goes:
My old big PS2 eventually stopped playing PS1 games and DVDs, followed by PS2 games themselves. The laser had went, and would cost about £50 to replace. I thought "to hell with it." and just bought a new slimline PS2 for £99. They are a lot quieter, smaller and lighter too.
That is probably your problem since Sony is renowned for their Playstations lasting a few years in general. Most people have/have had problems with their Playstations, and for that matter, X-boxs as well.
the clicky sounds are natural, unless they are very loud and/or have just recently started, in which case, your Playstation's most likely old and worn out.
it's up to you at the end of the day, but if you're sure the problem's the PS2 and not the games, then I would just get a slimline PS2 or wait and save for PS3 which will blow you away in March (for the UK).
Repairing is too costly in my opinion.

usually the clicking means that the tracks that the laser housing run on are dirty, and have a buildup of dirt/dust on them. it won't cause your ps2 to not work, but over time the buildup will cause the laser motor to not move quickly enough to the data points on the disk, and will cause the game to either not load, or load slowly. games that stream the data of the disk are the most suceptible to this problem, like GTA.

The disk is in all likelihood broken or smudged with greasy boogers out of your hands. gently dirt the disk with Ajax or Comet scouring powder and scrub the disk in a around action with a steel wool pad. Rinse it in warm water then stick in interior the microwave oven on severe for extra or less 5 minutes. that could desire to repair you top up.

have you cleaned it any, the ps2 has all types of filters and fans in it, but you need to wipe them with a cloth everynow and again. but even still it will creek cause its getting old and used all the time.
