so glad you asked that. i do think that nationalism is insane and of course we should consider that we are all homosapiens before anything else. however with society behaving like media whipped ants this is actually impossible. i will be pondering this question for a while though.

I've seen some of your questions and I think you're very smart.
Well... I'd say it doesn't indicate insanity. It just indicates that you're a human with natural preferences and a natural personality. I know people who think of themselves as part of a sexual orientation before the fact that they're part of a species. But those people are very affected and highly influenced by their sexuality, therefore I find it natural.
So this shows that you might be too attatched to your nation or that you consider your position inside of the nation valuable. Being part of your nation has some kind of meaning for you anyway, but you shouldn't let this type of thinking order your priorities in life as well.

No, having a national identiy can be very mentally stimulating.I beleive societies have always evolved in groups and tribes so it's a natural progression of things. In no way does it indicate insanity, citizens who can abide by rule makes for an orderly society unless it is a feudalistic society, then i say away with it. It's quite basic, diversity is interesting so the point is learning from each other. Thinking of yourself as anything means you have a certain identity, a sense of belonging, we all do think of ourselves as british or whatever bcos we all carry a citizenship whether you like it or not.
I echo Salman Rushdie's sentiment" India is my first truth"

Frankly, nobody thinks of human being as a species. That's because people don't consider themselves animals, and there are no other kinds of intellectual beings to contrast ourselves with.
If considering the individual as part of a nation before a species is insanity, then the whole world would be more or less a big mental institution.

Well since society is really whom determines the definition of insanity, I think that the answer to that would be no. Although as selfish beings we would be better off globally if we considered ourselves all of the same species. So I would say no it does not indicate Insanity but more likely indicates egoism.
(Great questions by the way, Thanks)

Is the harmony that various ant colonies have achieved a product of insanity? No.
Mental boundaries of government in no manner can produce or sustain insanity.

You are part of humanity.
The fact that you are thinking about yourself, it is utter selfishness.
Now, start thinking about my dead parrot and you are halfway to a mental institution.
