Ive read about differenty ways to induce labor. But the nipple stimulation seems a little more logical, but Im not quite sure exactly how to do it and for how long? Any suggestions?

You have to be careful with this. What nipple stimulation actually does is release oxytocin, which is what causes contractions. If you are not careful you could cause contractions that are too strong and could cause stress for your baby. You dont need to use a breast pump, just simply roll your nipples between your fingers. Also I wouldnt recommend doing it for 15 minutes at a time, because sometimes the stimulation will work pretty quickly and you are not supposed to stimulate during a contraction. Also, doing this causes pretty strong contractions, they do hurt, but if you stop stimulating for a while, you'll see that the contractions stop when you stop. The only way it will make you go into labor is if you are already ready to go into labor. If your body isnt ready, it wont work. You should ask your doctor before you try it. Good luck.

I tried it and ended up having an emergency c-section after they lost the baby's heart beat. The contractions are unusually strong when you use nipple stimulation.

Stimulating Nipples During Pregnancy

The reason it might work is because oxytocin is released when a baby breastfeeds. Oxytocin is the natural form of pictocin which is used to induce labor. My older daughter was still nursing while I was pregnant with my 2nd daughter and my 2nd came 8 days after her due date. So, it didn't work for me! If you do try it, you're supposed to mimic a baby breastfeeding (read about hand expressing on source below) for ten minutes at a time.

I used it with my son and it worked. Try getting in a warm bath and relaxing. Take a soft washcloth and wet it and lay it over your nipple and roll you nipple between your fingers until you start to feel a contraction. Wait until that one is done and then do the other nipple. Keep switching between them until the contractions are coming on there own. It didn't work with my daughter. Nothing is garanteed to work. Also Sex helps but it's best if you climax while having sex to start contractions. Do that and the nipple stim and that's probably your best chance

I think a breast pump is supposed to work really well at this. I was watching a baby show on TLC and the midwife had the mother to be pumping every couple of hours for about 15 minutes. This mother was overdue with her baby, but the nipple stimlation worked and within a day she had her baby! I don't think you need a pump, just try mimicking what a baby would do, tug on them a little. Or your significant other would most likely enjoy helping as well.

Using a breast pumps does indeed helps with inducing labor, it release hormones into your body just like Piticon, (http://www.drspock.com/article/0,1510,4925,00.html ). I'm not sure if just stimulating the nipple will do anything at all, I think its the whole breast, the muscles and tissues that makes it happen.

I've read that this isn't a very good method on trying to induce labor. Although this really won't help my point of view, it is one of the more sucsessful ways of bringing on labor- BUT, here is how it works.... Once you have your baby, in nature, you would obviously breast feed, the nipple stimulation from this causes your uterus to contract back DOWN to its original size. This is for after you have your baby to help your body get back to normal and isn't recommend by any doctor to get yourself started into labor when your body AND BABY aren't ready. I know it sounds trite, but you really will miss this time later down the road:) I promise, that baby isn't going to stay in there forever although I'm sure if feels that way! Labor will happen when it's time:) Good luck and try walking, sex, relaxation, etc. for natural ways to help your body prepare:) GOOD LUCK!!!
