Every generation has one day where everyone can remember what they were doing when they heard the news. For the present generation in the US it's 9-11-01, for the previous generation it was 11-23-63, the day John Kennedy was shot and the World War II generation always recalled 12-6, the day Pearl Harbor was bombed. It seems that these are all days when some extremely violent, unexpected event occurred. That must be what it takes for so many to never forget a particular day.

Here are some perhaps different suggestions:

April 11, 1969 man walked on the moon.

June 28, 1914 Archduke Ferdinand was shot starting WWI.

December 7, 1941 the day the US was bombed at Pearl Harbor and we entered WWII.

November 21, 1963 the Day JFK was assassinated.

June 16, 1968 the day Bobby Kennedy was shot.

April 4, 1968 the day ML King, Jr was shot.

April 14, 1865 the day Lincoln was shot.

and in another catagory:

December 8, 1980 the day John Lennon was shot.

August 16, 1977 Elvis died.

August 4, 1962 Marilyn Monroe died.

October 29, 1929 the day the stock market crashed and the depression started.

April 18, 1906 the San Francisco Earthquake.

April 12, 1861 the US Civil War began.

So, how many have you even heard of...people will forget 911 in time...what day was the building bombed in Oklahoma City--April 19, 1-9-9-5..forgot it did you not?

Ok besides 9/11
1)The day Hiroshima or Pearl Harbor was bombed?
2)The day the Vietnam War was ended. Not sure when that was, but for those generations it was a big deal!
3)The day JFK was shot!
For more recent generations I believe:
4)The day Princess Di was killed
5)The day JFK Jr died.

But these of course are basically all American events, and I am 38!

9 11 is a day we will never forget but I think a lots of student in your class will write about it. My son is always telling me amazing things he's learn from the history channel or their web site try looking at (history channel .com). Find something with in your teachers generation. Maybe you can earn some brownie point.

I would not recommend 9-11 there are too many people who write about that. choose something historical. write something about novels that have changed peoples viewpoints etc. something about the founding fathers. choose something that is important but not enough attention is granted to it. make something small into a big deal.

good luck with your paper

9-11, for sure. That is the current generation's assassination of Kennedy. Everybody alive in the Kennedy era remembers what they were doing when they found out about the assassination in Texas. Everyone nowadays remembers what they were doing when they heard about the WTC attacks.
