Exhaustion forces the male betta to find air. Fighting, excessive current in the water, being chased and having to constantly defend themselves, is exhausting.
Your two that rest on the pipes need to be put in separate bowls and watched. I realize bowls are frowned on and have to agree that it's like locking your dog in the closet. But! In this instance your bettas need a small area that holds them completely in water and not force them to swim around to fight any current. watch for ick and fuz on the fins. treat with one drop of Aqueri-sol and only one drop per bowl . If your fish do not perk up and start swimming around then it's age related.
Finally. Never keep two males in the same tank.
Given some time alone they just might perk up and be ok.

All siamese fighters will hide away on top of a filter or somewhere similar. But if you have more than one male in the same tank they will end up fighting. They do not rip each other apart as most people think, The stongest one will grip another one over its mouth and drag it down in the water and drown it. If you have them in a large tank this may take weeks but it will happen. Try one male and a couple of females. These fish are not really good for big tanks as they tend to hide away, they are much better suited to a small tank with not much decoration then you can see their full beauty. Good luck with them. P.S If you want them to breed you need a tank with no surface movement as it will disrupt the bubble nest.

Beautiful fish but sounds like they are dying.Maybe the others have got to it as you should only have 1 male and female together( only when breeding) they kill each other - hence name Siamese Fighters!! They are OK with other fish just not together as a pack. Separate them if you can.

you say you have 5, i hope you only have 1 male!! as more than 1 male will fight. fighter fish do not like fast moving water which is probaly why they stay behind the filter, anyway this is fine as they make that area as its easier for them to come up for air.

Are they females or males? If they are males are they all in their own tank?

Do you have plants or other things that they could lay on? A lot of bettas like to sleep on leaves near the top of the water near the water line so they don't have to swim up to get some air.

Are they sleeping in this spot? Are they at risk for drying up?
One of my bettas likes to work his way between the glass & the back of the filter. He prefers to sleep there. I figured he maybe likes the vibration of the filter.

the boy Siamese fighting fish fight each other , it's to show the girl fish that he is worthy of her so the male fish fight to the death,
I'm surprised the shop didn't tell you that.
The fish are probably in hiding from each other

They may have injured one another in a fight ... hence, the name "Siamese Fighting Fish". You can't keep more than one of these fish in the same tank ... they'll kill each other. In fact, they'll kill any other fish in the tank as well.

Dude, if they are males, they are going to kill each other! If they seem to making their "bubble nests" on the surface at the filter, then you may need to lower the surface level and give him something else to lay on.
