Anyone is capable of loving another! But to be 'in love' and to have a balanced and healthy relationship, one must truely love themselves. A good relationship is a balance of give and take, it is hard to find that balance if you don't love yourself. It could be really hard to take from another if you feel you don't deserve their love. It could also hard to give, if you feel that you need to take to feel loved.
Why shoulnd't you love yourself. This world would be a much better place if everyone did!

If you believe in GOD and love HIM then you love period. You understand the meaning of love. It gives you the power and ability to love. How can you know the feeling of love without having it within your heart anyway. At best, it is a blessing from HIM when shared with another for the lesson He taught has made an impact in the lives of two not just one.......

I don't think you can. I had a difficult childhood, losing my mother at 18 months old, and never knew how to love myself or anyone much. Since becoming a Christian I've found that God, unlike the Church, keeps reminding me, insisting in fact, that I need to love myself.

Jesus' second commandment, to love your neighbour as yourself, always had me flummoxed, as it seemed to me somehow decadent or selfish to love myself. It has taken years of prayer and struggle, and being misdirected by the Church, but now at last I've become certain that I must love myself in order to be able to love others and to be positive about life in general.

Yes, and probably with more sincerity, what you know you lack you will strive to make sure that whomever you do love never has to experience because you have so much to give,if not ,
it's probably because you feel sorry for yourself which is a cop-out all by it's self.

I think it's possible, but I know some psychologists who say that love is like a glass of water that everyone drinks from, so if you don't have enough water for yourself then how can you give to others?

How can you give away something you do not possess?? Wake up to what is in your own heart. "God dwells within you as you". In the form of Unconditional love. The essence of your being is unconditional Love. It shines like sunlight, it radiates out to all, How could you stop it?? Yes we love all beings, but wake up,let yourself experience this great love within your own heart.

Yes, but the relationship is doomed until you love yourself above anyone else.

Once you do, a healthier relationship can develop with the same person.

No.

I was going to leave it at that, but then I thought better of it.

The question tells me that you feel that you love at least one other. To just say no, I feel, might have caused you undo pain.

Be a little more introspective. I believe you will find you do love yourself.

I hope I have been of some small service to you.

Yes.
But only when loved in return.

You can't love yourself, it would be foolish to try; love is how you intertwine with others to create a future beyond yourself. You can only love others by leaving yourself behind.
