i like the friendlies myself. no stakes therefore none of the negatives you mentioned. just pure passionate football and the friendly competitive spirit that you don't see much of in the other kind of competition (the unfriendlies?). and noname006 said it right. teams tend experiment with their strategies and combinations, and the players are freer to express themselves, within limits of course 'cuz it's still all about winning and following the rules, but for different reasons this time: pride, prestige, the principle of it. so in that sense, yeah i think the friendlies are impt.

Umm...no not really because they are ur opponent and it's a competition so it's hard to be friendly and competitive at the same time...so it's not that important! It's always a good thing thou but very rare

ya friendlies are important it lets you try out different tactics and different players when in world cup or european cup matches you wouldn't be able to.
Isn't better to lose a friendly trying something different than to lose in first round of major championship...

OF COURSE THEY R IMPORTANT.NOT THE ITALIANS CANT AFFORD TO SPENT $$$ ON FRIENDLIES COZ THEY HAVE THE EURO AND WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS COMIN UP AND THE REFS ARE BECOMING VERY CHOOSY ABOUT EM.HAVENT U HEARD ABOUT THE REF OF THE MATCH AGAINST LITHUNANIA WHO WAS TOO CHOOSY ABOUT BUFFON'S PORSCHE COLOUR AND FINALLY OUR "WORLD CUP HEROS" BECAME ZEROS!
