So far humanity has been around in its modern form for only a few hundred thousand years. Written language was only developed six to eight thousand years ago. In that time we've gone from clay tablets to tablet PCs, from sand to silicon microprocessors. Six thousand years ago learned men believed that the Earth was a flat disk surrounded on all sides by water, and that the universe had been created from this water. Now scientists can trace the origins of time to within a billionth of a second of the Big Bang.
That's in six thousand years. A million years is one hundred sixty six times that long, and we're jumping off from our current base of technology and learning.
What humanity will be capable of in the next thousand thousand years is just staggering. We literally cannot imagine the questions our descendants will be asking, or the answers that they will find.
I don't doubt that scientists in a millions years will be able to tell you in detail how the universe began. I'm curious if they will be able to tell you why.

I think so, because with the technology and scientific developments so far, we can trace back to something around a billionth of a second (actually, it's probably MUCH much closer to it) after the Big Bang. If technology keeps progressing, and science keeps advancing, there's no telling what people will be capable of learning of our creation. Within a million years, who knows? We could potentially learn that there was a BEFORE the Big Bang, or that the spiritual answers to creation are true.
Scientific capabilities are growing exponentially every day, so I'd put my money on us finding out what happened much sooner than a million years. I'd say next friday :-) haha

Kudos to the Space science and technology, mankind has made remarkable progress in the last 50 years. Starting from the first Soviet satellite putting Laika[dog] in space to 1969 when US put men on Moon.Subsequently lot of work has been done in terms of space ships, space shuttles, great and detailed pictures of Moon,Mars and other planets. There have been other major discoveries on receding universe, dark matter holding the universe together have been made.Having said all this let us also note that we have to greatly improve our rocket propulsion technology and rocket fuels with greater specific impulse to take care of longer flights to mars and so on. Who can say what will happen in the next million years. We can not even accurately predict of next 50 years. I am very hopeful. If not in my time during the time of my grand children some epoch-making discoveries will come in the field of space exploration. My only fear is there may be unhealthy competition to capture and control resources in new horizons in space due to fast ending of fossil fuels on Earth. This may not result in wars!

No ... but even if someone discovered the truth ... there'd be someone there trying to cover it back up.
