If this was not true explain why the world we have made is such a mess.
How much longer can we afford to avoid the central issue?

We are all self centred 'individuals-'selfish' thinking only about our little circle of existence. If we were not would the world be in such chaos?

I know what you mean, just a little could go along way. Only about 10% of the people i know think about others in the world and not just whats in there world. I think that we are progressing though... it will just take time.

As human beings our instinct is personal and familial survival - not mass survival. Animals will kill their own breed, creed and peers in order to protect their family and themselves.
We do not see outside of our 'circles' as we do not have the mentality to do so. If we could, if we truly took on the woes of the whole world, we would all be mad! Survival of sanity depends on our coping mechanisms and we are unable to stretch that coping mechanism far beyond our own family and friends.
Such is the strength of personal and familial survival that, should we all get it right and protect our own, we end up protecting the entire world. Unfortunately, there are some that can barely look after their own and this is where the downfall starts! If each nucleus was perfect then the whole world would be too...

I'm just reading that back and not sure it made any sense at all... but I know what I meant!

Mx.

Are you saying you can't feel ok about ourselves and be bothered about the world at the same time? Surely that's the wonderful thing about being human, we're paradoxical. We can know people are starving or suffering but still feel a thrill of joy when sunlight hits a puddle of we hear a child laughing. If we didn't have that capacity we'd surely go insane.

How can someone with no sense of self, no centre, be of use to others? Only by undertanding our own strengths and weaknesses can we understand others. Like anything else, it's taking it all to extremes that causes the problems.

Our chaos is educating other species to better their own lives. Foxes steal delivered newspapers to line their dens. Squirrels swipe yellow ribbons , also to make comfortable nest bedding. Bears in some areas have found they don't need to hunt--just invade some human kitchen, and feast.

Our genetic science will soon enable all species to step on the fast track of biological evolution, bypassing the slow random mutation and chance success process.

Yes, there seems to be a chance that we will blow it and destroy everything. And I used to think that was practically inevitable. But I now believe that God and Mother Nature are USING human abilities for purposes of their own, to marvelously transform the reality of Planet Earth.

We are not acting on our own. Everything we can do, has been planned and allowed for.
Just as a bird was obviously made to fly, we humans are obviously made to make things. And while it matters what everyone else does, and how they fare, they are all alright, too.

You cannot rearrange furniture, or even clean house, without temporarily making a mess. That mess is glorious. Childbirth is messy too but life results.

Be of good cheer, for all is really well, no matter what it looks like right now.
We are part of the Living Universe, which doesn't do anything self--destructive.

The tendency to conquer the world and rule over it is a very old desire of human race. This is the cause of Alexanders invasion to 2nd world war and the war in Iraq today. Hitler wanted to rule the world and Saddam wanted to rule the world. this kind of men do not let other people to remain in peace. The UNO was formed to end all wars but it could not do so. Still we can say some kind of uneasy peace is still maintained. With more and more nations going Nuclear it is only a matter of time before the Holocaust starts.

Maybe you need to examine who is shaping your opinions. We are bombarded with messages of hate and loathing for each other by polititicans, TV, video games, internet. Who or what is behind all of this. When you can identify the enemy, you can do something about the state of your mental health and the rest of the world around you. Have you ever noticed how a content, happy person seems to change the environment around him/her. This person walks into a room and the whole climate of the room changes. If you feel okay with yourself, you will eminate okay and this "good" feeling is as easy to spread as the hate and discontent that we face every day.

Usually what is called acting in a moral way is in your best interest. It is for example in your best interest to act in a way you would approve of if someone else did it. Otherwise you will get guilty unpleasant feelings and you won't be able to feel pleasantly superior.

If humanity drops empathy all together, then maybe your question would be answered simply. But that isn't going to happen and people will continue to be people, good and bad and generally in full knowledge of the others plight.
