depending on where youo are staying - take the people mover to greektown - go to the New Parthenon for dinner, hit the casino and then the Astoria (i think that's the name, it's right on the corner by lafayette and beaubian) for some treats -get an extra for your hotel room later ; )

if you like "learning & museums" check out the city;s historical museum by the library. the library itself is enjoyable too. the museum is really neat with a lot of fun things about detroit. they lower area is what they call the streets of detroit - they are the old store fronts and cobblestones of the day. it's really a nice afternoon visit.

you may want to check with the concierge to see what else is going on as there is generally some nightlife activities. just like with any large city - be careful. keep your head up and walk like you know where you are going - even if you don't!

I have to DITTO on Andrew's comment about the coney island.... get it loaded with chili & onions!!! you could ven walk there, depending ont he weather and where you're staying during the day. if you're at the marriott courtyard or ren cen (see fi the street address is Jefferson) it's just a short walk - maybe 5 blocks.

Well, I think you might find it interesting to visit a real auto plant. They have tours daily, leaving from Henry Ford Museum, which is also something you might like to see.

The best VIEW of Detroit is to go across the bridge to Windsor, Canada (bring your Passport!), and ask for directions to the casino. This will put you right next to the river, and there is a huge park on the Canadian side. It is also much safer over there.

You might like to try visiting the top of the Renaissance Center Tower; they have both a revolving lounge and also a revolving restaurant. Just go to the lounge and enjoy the view.

And the casinos

And Greektown, mostly just restaurants.

The Detroit Institute of Arts is a fine Art Museum, but it is nothing like the Louvre.

Oh, and definitely take a ride on the People Mover. You can stay on all day if you want, without having to repay, until you get off and on again.

Look for events at Joe Louis Arena, like a hockey game, or at Cobo Hall, like the International Auto Show, 2nd week in January every year.
Be careful walking around alone. Especially at night.

In addition to the things listed above, there is also the Detroit Zoo and the Detroit Science Center. The Science Center has an IMAX theater and there is also one at the Henry Ford Museum.

Also, if you're staying in Auburn Hills, there's a huge mall called Great Lakes Crossing nearby. They have tons of stores, restaurants, movies and an indoor miniature golf place.

Hello. I hope you enjoy visiting our wonderful city. Here are a few things to do/enjoy.

The Detroit Institute of Arts
The Charles Wright African American Museum
MGM Casino
Motorcity Casino (I love the buffet)
Greektown Casino
Fishbones Restaurant
Shopping at near by Somerset Collection
Campus Martius
Baker’s Keyboard Lounge

Look for shows/plays at the Fox Theatre.

I've been to everything listed (27 year old female). I hope you enjoy. I hear the club scene is alright, you just have to go to the right spot. I like Marilyn's on Monroe and other "laid back" spots.

DO NOT visit and AFTER HOUR spots...

Well, if you enjoy gambling at all there are a few different casinos you coul check out (MGM Grand, Motor City, Greektown). If you're into sports...depending on when you are going to be there...you could check out football, baseball, hockey, basketball, etc. You must go to the Hockeytown Cafe right across from Comerica Park (if you are any kind of hockey fan).

By the way...I am a female and nearly every time I've gone up to Detroit (which is very frequently)...I've never had any reason to not feel safe. A friend of mine and I go to the casino around 10 o'clock on a Saturday night, usually not leaving till around 3 a.m., another friend and I used to go up for concerts all the time (usually involved getting lost in the worst neighborhoods) and never had a problem. I think the people who need to fear the violence most is people who live there, in the bad neighborhoods and associate with the wrong people.

The Henry Ford Museum is considered on of the top tourist attractions in the United States. It also has the Rouge River Tour, which is an opportunity to visit a working auto factory (reserve tickets now!).

The Detroit Institute of Arts and the many other museums are decent.

If you are downtown, go to Greektown for dinner. Then take a cab over to the MGM grand casino. The next day, check out the Detroit Institute of Arts. I would have someone direct you to Lafayette Coney Island for a Detroit-style Coney Island hot dog lunch. It isn't Cordon Bleu cuisine, but it is a mighty tasty Detroit contribution to gastronomy.

The henry ford museum in Dearborn, The detroit historical museum (just renovated) the Detroit institute of the Arts, plenty of strip clubs, i recommend sunset strip on Michigan ave, the girls are ugly, but they do a good job,
We don't have cafes like in europe, but lots of people hang out in "sports" bars where they drink beer and watch sports
