Well like you I have experienced every facet of abuse possible. Not just from my childhood but even into my adult life. Abuse happens so much more than people are willing to admit. Learning to break the cycle just starts with an attitude from you that you aren't going to allow it to happen any longer. PERIOD! It takes some time to realize your selfworth because abuse stems from people who just want to down play who you are and your worth. Sexual abuse is a pretty common thing. Even into marriages. People withhold sex and sometimes they make their partner do things that they dont' want to.

Too often. Most like you who have grown up do not speak of it. I think this has been happening forever, but is now coming out so much more often as people learn that is was not their fault and they should not be ashamed of telling the truth and speaking out against those who hurt them. The cycle can be broken and I give you so much credit for doing so. I often wonder if it will ever stop?

The line between dicipline and abuse is a fine one.

I will forever defend my right to spank my child for unacceptable behavior. But many people concider that abuse.

So, I guess as long as there is ambiguity about what is abuse there will be people who don't report it.

Although sexual abuse is sick, it is hard to prove 35 years later.

Problably because there ashamed to admit it happened to them, or maybe it never happened and there just clueless or in deinal. I think it's far more prevalent then anyone wants to believe. So sorry to hear about what happened to you. I was a victim too. And your right, the cycle had to be stopped or it will continue unabated.

the statistics are alarming!
One out of every seven children are abused by the time they are 12.
Good for you, breaking the cycle.
Speak up, that is the only way to change things.

i think that it happens more often then people wanna believe. cuz if u think about it it happens in cycles. so say a grandpa does it to his son, then he does it to his son, and so on. i think that this happens to a larger number of people who havent said anything about it then ones who have told somebody. think about all the kids/adults that r afraid to say something, or the ones who have said something but nobody believed them. i think any kinda abuse is a problem and we need to do something about it. it needs to be stopped. its a very serious issuse and nobody has really tried to address it and fix it.
