Obviously it depends on which country you live in. In the U.S., the rate for up to one ounce is 39c, tentatively due to go to 42c in May 2007. You can use any combination of stamps that add up to at least 39c - and the post office doesn't mind if you overpay.

Post cards can be mailed currently for 24c.

The above is for mail within the U.S. Letters to most other countries cost 84c, but it's 63c to Canada and Mexico. All for one ounce.

If you are in a country other than the U.S., I don't know.

Right now, in the U.S., it's 39 cents per average letter.

(My entire family works in the Post Office!)
