I'm on birth control. I recently got my period and (this is detailed) something passed through me that was definitely not the regular consistancy of blood. It was a clump that was thick, gooey (grosse, I know), and looked like blood. Could it have been a blood clot passing through? If not what could it have been?

That's a clot. They are common in periods, not just when you're on the pill. They are what cause cramps in some women, especially if they're larger. It's nothing to worry about.

Blood clots are completely normal. If it lasts longer than a day I would contact a dr to make sure nothing else was going on. Remember that birth control sometimes wrecks havoc on our hormones so you may get some weird "side effects." Helpful to read the medication paperwork that comes with the birth control.

You period blood clots when it gets old. It's not like a blood clot that they tell you is a side effect of the pill, that is a clot in your vein and can travel to your heart and kill you, but it doesn't leave out your vagina. it's just dried old blood.
