It feels like someone lit a match to the back of my leg. It last for about ten seconds then it goes away. As the days go on it feels as if the warmth starts to get hot. What the hell is this. There is no pain just heat.

The first thing that comes to mind is a blood clot also know as a deep vein thrombosis (DVT) A long road trip or airplane flight puts anyone at risk for a DVT, unless you are moving your legs or getting up to stretch them every couple of hours. It can be characterized by simple discomfort or pain. If you're female on birth control pills and/or smoking, that will only increase your risk of blood clot formation. A quick little test is to sit on the floor with your leg straight out in front of you. Have someone push the top part of your foot towards you and see if that makes your calf hurt more then a stretched muscle. This little test is called a Homens sign and its either postiive or negative depending on whether or not it hurts. There is also a blood test we do in the ER to help detect the presence of a blood clot. Its called a D-dimer test. Its not a definitive test, but it helps the physician determine whether an ultrasound scan is needed.

The other possibility is that your calf muscle is just sore from a long trip and having not stretched it for 8 hours can cause that type of pain. Hope this helps

How old are you? Was this on a plane or a car ride? This could be related to age (circulation difficulties as we get older) and or sitting for too long at high altitudes or for long periods of time without moving. You can actually damage your arteries if theyre kept in a compressed or confined position for too long without moving. It is said that one should stop and stretch their legs by walking or physically massaging their legs every 45 minutes of prolonged sitting. 8 hours is a long time to sit.
