It has been said we have lost our sense of identity as a nation, the 'war time spirit' that made our tiny nation great. Why is that?

Doyle-darrell - you are a vile individual. To call all British nationals - including those who gave their lives so we can have this debate - 'thick scumbags' is bang out of order. If you did it to provoke a reaction it worked - I am absolutely f*cking livid. I do not mean to stoop to your level but It is people like you who are scumbags.

I think what derbyandrew is trying to say is if WW2 hadn't already occurred and it began tomorrow would the mutlicultural Britain be able to win?
For a start as many of you have pointed out we had the assistance of the YANKS on this World War, but what we really need to think about is if there was another World War how WOULD Britain fair? Would it be like the World Cup football where everyone disperses back to their homeland to play / fight for their homeland?
Because if that's the case we wouldn't stand a chance.
Or how do we determine who is to be "called-up" for active duty?
Would the everyone be so KEEN to stay in the UK then? Or would they actually be a hinderense to us as a nation - would we know where their loyalties lay? Could all individuals be trused with firearms etc.
This kind of question just leads to more and more and more!

Britain did not win WW2 it was the allies. The spirit is present in our nation but our education system has tried to destroy loyalty to the country.War fighting is mainly young peoples efforts and when our young get going they take some controlling. It is guts and determination that would be required and should this be required there is plenty of it.
The war time spirit would be different, times have changed, suicide missions would be frowned on or ignored. The British could still lead such an horrible situation should the need arise, but we would need a more realistic leader than Churchill.

We would probably not fight the same way again, because :
It would probably be nuclear, so over before we all had time to finish our nice cups of tea.
The country at large is composed of materialistic and shallow youngsters who do not have a sense of belonging.
National service doesn't happen anymore so most people lack the tools, training and incentive.
I don't think the dominant reason is multiculturalism.
By the way we won our own war thanks very much. It was over as far as the British Isles were concerned after the Battle of Britain was won. After that it was a question of removing the Germans and their partners from countries were they did not belong, and in that yes the Americans were crucial.

You really think that whether Britain would win is down to multiculturalism?
Short answer today's generation doesn't care (regardless of where you originate from). It doesn't matter if you're black, white, asian etc. That's not down to multiculturalism it's down to a break down in personal values of today's youth.
During WW2 there were a lot of different cultures over here fighting for King and country (hello British commonwealth) and it worked back then. So again the whole issue is not a case of race and religion.

We have lost our sense of identity as a nation. This is because so many immigrants fail to integrate and our government permits them to isolate themselves within their own cultures.
If WW (presume you mean 3?) broke out tomorrow, Britain could have civil war. Imagine we are at war with the nations of Islam - how many of the muslims over here would fight for the British? Not many because their loyalty would be to Islam rather than to the country that gave them sanctuary, so we could have major in-fighting amongst ourselves.
It really is too hideous to bear thinking about too hard.

is this a trick question? once you're saying "WW2" are you bearing on between the worldwide wars of the 18th century? at that ingredient the united kingdom's classic allies have been Prussia and Portugal, and Britain on no account somewhat stood on my own, even though it may desire to have regarded that way. The British and French spoke of as the 1914-18 conflict "the large conflict". The Germans spoke of because it the "worldwide conflict" considering they had on no account been in one till now.

That's an interesting thought. Things were certainly simpler then. One land, one people. And a direct threat to the UK. Now, the threat seems less real although the bombing by BRITISH CITIZENS (!??) of the London Tube brings it to home.
Thinking about it, the lack of universal (and I mean from all Muslims in the UK) condemnation of the terror attacks in London is disconcerting.

Why? Because Britain has tossed aside any sense of national pride and now concerns itself with politically correct nonsense. It willingly betrays and sacrifices its own history, its own language and culture, all in some guilt-complex attempt at not "offending" others.
It is ironic indeed that in the process of not wishing to "offend" a person, you willingly trample on your own nation.

If you look back carefully, you will find a lot of soldiers came form other cultures - you will see in the list of honors - very brave sikh fighter pilots and gurkha army etc.
Things would be no different if war happened now - Every one will throw their weight behind, but for some antisocials.

It wasn't until the 1950's where migration began in to the UK in earnest. There have been multiple phases of migration in to the UK over the last 50 years leading to a breakdown in the predominantly English nation and leading us in to a modern multi-diverse one.
Earliest was European migration, then West Indian, then Indian (or the India region) and most recently African and Eastern European.
