The US Virgin Islands are not a state, they are a US territory, and have been sunce they were purchased from Denmark in 1917.

A state in what country? This place is not a state in the United States, if it was there would be more than 50. It may be a part of the United States, but it doesn't have Statehood yet. I assume St. Thomas is the Virgin Islands.

It isn't a state - neither is Puerto Rico - they're territorial possessions
