If I understand correctly, when you boot up windows, you open the internet explorer, it goes to yahoo mail and automatically logs you in...
This means your username and password is saved.
Only one of you can autologin to the mail like this at a time, which means you will need to login to yours, then logout, then type in his email and pass and click SAVE PASSWORD...
If you are reffering to YAHOO messenger, you must do the same thing. LOGOUT of the messenger, then go to LOGIN again, and this time is should ask you for your credentials...
If you save your password, it will autolog you in forever untill you LOGOUT manually.
So for your mail, logout manually, then login with his credentials and click SAVE PASSWORD, and it should AUTO login for him, untill he logs out later on and vice versa for you.

He has to logout on Yahoo's website and then log back in to Yahoo Mail as himself.

there should be the option at the top to "sign out" your account and therefore allow him to "sign in" with his own details
