Usually six weeks. We jumped in the sack again at five weeks. It depends. If you have a c-section the wait is 12 weeks I think.

Hi. I am an RN. The usual is 6 weeks unless you had complications. Most people will tell that they didn't wait that long but do not listen to them. There is a reason for 6 weeks. It is for infection and healing. Doctor's have found that this IS THE APPROPRIATE time frame to do all that. Congrats on the baby and wait at least 6 weeks...you should have a check up before then so you can talk to your doctor about it.

Your obstetrician and pregnancy books will likely tell you to wait 6 weeks, as mine did....HOWEVER...my obgyn's wife is the intake nurse at his clinic (does the weight, blood pressure etc.) and while she was updating my stats, she told me about how her second baby was born 9 months after her first.
SOMEBODY couldn't wait his 6 weeks, apparently....
Seriously, though, your lochia flow (the flow after the birth) could end as quickly as 2 weeks after delivery, and if you're not feeling sore and don't have an episiotomy wound that isn't healed..you can usually go ahead. It's a personal preference thing.

Usually six weeks, longer if there are complications. Although some women heal better than others, its not wise to push your luck. Birth is a hard ordeal to put your body through and you need to give it plenty of time to heal from the damage you know about and the damage you don't. It also takes a long time for your hormones to line themselves back out.

40 days (5.5 weeks - almost 6). Besides, you'll be so worn out after pregnancy the last thing you'll think of is sex. Especially if you had a c-section. Your partner must be very comprehensive and not rush up things.

Everyone is going to tell you 6 weeks, but honestly the answer is:
When you want to. If you want to the next day, go ahead. Obviously if it hurts: Stop!
Some people will tell you you have to wait for the bleeding to stop otherwise you can get an infection. Firstly it is sperm not some bio-hazardous material. Secondly your cervix is slightly open during menstruation and millions of women manage to have sex without dying of infection so that is just bull. (No it won't cause hemorrhaging either --sheesh people. Any exertion can cause an increase in bleeding if you are pushing yourself to hard, but that is just a sign that you need to take it easy --not because you had sex per say. Like I said it is you and your body it will tell you what it needs)
The six week rule is because doctors think women are morons who don't know what is right for their body.

After your 6 week checkup. Any sex prior to that can introduce bacteria up there.
