Maybe we should ban organized religion. Or better yet, maybe we should ban gayness.

Ban every religion in the world? Wouldn't that be the religious beliefs of a few BILLION people? Give me a break...
It would be much easier just to ban the music of Elton John, a much more sensible and peaceful solution.

if being anti-gay is the issue, than banning religion wont help that as institutionalised homophobia would continue, perhaps more intensely, in other institutions.
While a more libertarian stand would be admirable, to ban religion is not an answer and a knee jerk reaction I would assume from a flippancy on Elton's part rather than any forethought, as its a narrow minded and reactionary position to assume.
just like homophobes really.

It's sad that his hatred of other religions has come this far. Atheism isn't the best religion anyway. Look at all the deaths Hitler caused and he hated religion too.
His Judeo-Christian phobias are very apparent. I think he's probably hetero-phobic as well.
What a shame. He used to be a talented musician. Now he's just a hateful old bigot.

I don't think it is religions fault it is the perception in which people see it and use it for their own purposes that is at fault. Just because someones views are a certain way does not mean all people should be held accountable that is being just as negative and close minded as the person in which you are having the problem with..

Some religion becomes fanatic. However religion in moderation can be helpful. Providing us with an inside hope factory and an urge to do better and accomplish goals in life. Also to be charitable. Christians aren't the only ones to want peace.

actually it was funny when he said it, because I was just telling someone the other day that I was glad I wasn't a religious person.. I think people that are in any kind of organized religion are becoming "hateful" towards other people, for their beliefs and causes.. some girl said one day on here that women who get raped should have to have the rapists baby, because it's God's body and he's just lending it to us-or something to that effect - I was shocked that someone would care so little about another human being, that they didn't care about that woman's brutal rape, and that she was left for dead but have that baby.. not all pregnancies make it.. so screw that woman's mental health for the possibility of a baby- then the whole gay marriage ban.... that's was horrible.. since when does American laws have anything to do with religion.. I thought that was horrible, we are taking away other Americans rights, privileges, and freedoms because some people don't agree with their lifestyle.. I think that's horrible.. I think organized religion makes people not care about other people.. and I'm glad I'm not religious.. I think I care about more people, I think I lead a better, more caring life as an American because of that fact

I think this is rediclous and he should be banned for making future music. He lost the connections really. I do however believe Religion is man made however, God and the Bible and personal relationship with God is the truth. You don't need a Religion to live a Godly lifestyle.

The quote was completely taken out of context. It was in The Observer Music Monthly and it was Elton and Jake Shears talking. They both pointed out that this is not always the case, just that sometimes there is a lot of hostility.

I think this banning culture of today has infected everyone now. Can't blame him though, when everything gets banned around us left, right and centre, we are bound to think that banning is the answer. How many 'Should we ban...?' questions have I seen on Yahoo Answers before? Loads.
