Good question! I've been trying to figure that out for 50 years! Each thinks they are the only one who is right about an issue. And the "conservative" and "liberal" tags ? Everyone has a little of each in them, depending on the issue.

Voting a straight ticket (all one Party) is idiotic! (unless you know what each candidate in that Party stands for & you agree -- but I don't think anyone in this country EVER spends that much time debating the questions for themselves, personally)

GOD BLESS AMERICA (we need it!)

I have looked over all of the answers you have so far. Most of them say that the Dem's. is for the poor and the Rep. for the rich. I find this totally amazing to say the least. The Dem's. want to raise minimum wage but also raise taxes. How may I ask is this for the poor? They want to tamper with the earned income credit by cutting it in half. How is this for the poor? Tax breaks for middle America is going to be a thing of the past for a while, placing more middle class people in the poverty level. OK, so where does the poor fit in except to make more poor. The reason they do not get along is Dem's. want more government while the Rep's. do not want larger government, usually. A state in the United States is currently running on a 2 billion dollar excess, a Dem. got in as governor and I can guarantee you it will be broke very soon. Talk about poor. They have a problem with handling tax payers money.

All of the Parties have their own agenda and only represent the people when it is convenient and furthers their election causes. This is a true downside to democracy. Our elective procedure is outdated and unnecessary in this day of computers and high tech gadgets. I personally would like to see an election begin with at least 5 or 6 choices, and then have a runoff with the two highest. This would at least assure that we would end up with someone in power who captured a majority of the votes. As long as the party system exists, this will be an impossibility. To answer your questions more expressly, the Democrats and Republicans can not get along, because they are by nature on two different pages. One or the other is not necessarily wrong, but they have eluded the whole concept of teamwork - so they end up getting nothing done. Now that our Congress is Democrat majority, I expect even less to get done. The whole process sickens me, but America is still the best country to live in. We need to continue to seek God's blessing on our country, and maybe one day, our elected leaders will listen to His call at least.

Because they have different philosophies. The Democrats care the working class families, but the Republicans care the Coporate America.

Democrats and Republicans can get along.

We all got together and voted the hot air out of George Walker Bush.

This fact was evidenced on 11-7-06.

Hallelujah! There IS a GOD ! ! !

They represent a different constituency, generally speaking. Democrats stand up for the poor, minorities, human rights and progress, while Republicans are more concerned with keeping big business happy and cater more to the rich and more restrictive, old fashioned values.

Because they are pig headed and both think their opinions are right and each others are wrong, all they care about is who is in control and who has the most money if they cared about what they were there for it would be a better place, but fat chance of that happening!
