My son is 7 months old and knows how to sit but won't. As soon as you turn your back he is on his belly. Is that normal? He is learning to crawl so he likes to be on the move but my mother said that he doesn't really know how to sit if he won't sit still. Is that true?

If he knows how to sit but is learning to crawl, he probably just doesn't want to sit! He wants to practise his new skill and explore his surroundings. He can't do that by sitting still. Just keep putting him in a sitting position every so often and let him do his own thing from there. He'll sit when he wants to. If your concerned see your doctor.

Mine just started crawling. He may be a busy body. Likes to move. He also may feel insecure. It takes awhile for babies to feel confident with balance. He probably still a little top heavy. He seems to be on track and he will sit when he is ready. I have had three. They all did things differently.

People put too much pressure on babies to do things when they want them too. If he can crawl then he is progressing fine. (many babies don't do that at 7 months and they are normal) As long as he is healthy then don't worry. When he reaches his milestones be happy but don't worry if they happen at different rates than expected. If you need more reassurance just ask the doctor. He/she will tell you your son is fine!

I wouldn't worry about sitting up as much as where he is developmentally. I had twins who never crawled. They went from rolling over to walking. No problems: they are 20 years old, and noone cares they never crawled.

It is perfectly normal, he may be sitting later today. It sounds like he's ready but excited to do other things. Sitting still is boring!

Do you sit him up in a highchair? that might help.. also those bumbo chairs are cool. Walmart makes a generic one.

Dont worry, he's busy exploring his world and doesnt have time to sit still. Once they start to crawl you cant get them to stop, it is very normal.

He will do everything when he is ready. He probably does not like sitting still and likes to be on the go.

If he can sit he is fine, he just doesn't want to be still! And it is better he moves around anyway.
