I have a 1994 Chrysler LHS that seems to have an intermittant problem with the ignition switch. Occasionally when I start the car the guages and warning lights along with the transmission gear position indicator lights will not work. Also when this event is occuring the transmission will not shift out of first gear. The only thing that seems to fix this is shutting the car down and restarting it sometimes a couple of times. The last time the car did this I cycled the key cylinder all the way through from off to accessory back to off then on then to start. The gauges, lights, position indicator and transmission worked fine after that. I believe there was at one time a recall for the ignition switch on this particular model of the LHS and I'm pretty sure it was not done on this car. Do any of the Chrysler maintenance technicians out there have any previous experience with this type of problem?

Check with a Chrysler dealer to see if there are any outstanding recalls on your car. If not, you most likely need an ignition switch, or possibly the screws tightened in the tilt steering column. I have seen problems in Chrysler products caused by the tilt wheel working a bit loose!

These vehicles have had ignition switch problems that usually occur on the higher mileage ones where the switch has been turned on and off over and over. Also there is a body computer on those vehicles that controls some of these functions, and it can also get squirrelly. One thing you can try that might reset the computer is to have the battery cables removed and left loose for an hour. After that hook them back up and see if this problem stays gone for awhile. If it doesn't your key switch would be where I would start. If the problem stays gone for a bit then the computer system, or wiring harness would be my first place to check.

there's a daily issue with the ninety's era steerage tilt steerage columns. even as people won't be able to turn off their automobile, that is continually because a small plastic pushrod proper to the ignition cylinder has broke. This pushrod is proper to the actual switches that administration the ignition. you may start the motorcar because it really is pushing the rod, yet you won't be able to close it off because the major does not pull the rod decrease backtrack. I listen that is a PIA to change that area. all those who's done it recommends that you purely replace the completed steerage column fairly. it may purely be a nasty lock cylinder on your case although, problematical to assert. The parking brake would not have something to do with it. i might want to examine the rear brakes for placed on if he had it on more effective than a mile.

A couple of years ago I fixed a similar problem on a Ford. The ignition switch had to be replaced. A new switch should fix the problem. Also a recall doesn't repair vehicles as old as yours.
