i recently had my van fixed for a engine problem and when i got it back the transmission is acting up. I cant go into reverse. I called the shop where i got it worked on and they told me it must of been like that when they got it. The transmission was fine. What should I do?

If possible contact the better business bureau and see if they have had any similar complaints against them. I would file a complaint with them while you are at it. Then take it to a different mechanic and see what they think could have caused the problem. Get an estimate for the work. Check around, ask as many people as you can, and try to get the best price. I hate to say this but there are still some places that look at a woman with a vehicle problem that think they can get away with doing anything to mess up their vehicle or overcharging for needless repairs. I hope you can find out what is causing this and I hope you never have a problem like this again.

You do not say what year, or make van that you have, nor do you say what repair work was done. It is possible that a computer controlled transmission is acting up because the battery was disconnected, and it lost the program memory, needing to relearn the shift points. It may be that something was left loose when they worked on the van, or it could be that the transmission just picked that time to have a problem, not due to anything the shop did.

Have the transmission checked, and see what the problem is.

bring it to another shop if they say the other shop caused it have them fix it and bring the bill back to the first shop you did give them a Chance to fix there mistake and when they didn't you did sue them if necessary in small claims court you will win if the other shop says it was the first shops problem
