Paul Tracy is believed to be the highest paid driver in Champ Car, at an estimated $5 million per year. It's believed Gerry Forsythe offered A.J. Allmendinger a multi-year contract at $1 million per year, but he turned it down to go to NASCAR.
A few of the Champ Car drivers are probably paid little more than expenses and are bringing sponsorship money to their teams.
I suspect the best paid drivers in the Indy Racing League (IRL) are paid somewhat less than Tracy. As for NASCAR, I'm not familiar with the salary structure.

Most of the drivers in Champ Car aren't making an awful lot of money right now. In fact, there are a decent number of them that are *paying* to be in those seats, and just as many who are having expenses paid with very little on top of that. Tracy and Bourdais and are the only two who are making in excess of $1 million per year; Wilson and Junqueira are in that neighborhood, but Junqueira will probably be out of a job within 30 days.

Their salary depends on how well they do in a race. Nascar.com has all of the driver's earnings.
