Yes they are great! As long as the person you are giving it to shops at those stores. This way they can get exactly what they want.

Meh. It depends on the store and the recipient -- if it's somebody whose taste you don't know, and it's for a large place they'll definitely be able to find something they like at, sure.
They get a bit boring if the recipient has enough cash, if they're of very low value, if it's for a lousy store, etc. Somebody mentioned a person not having any use for a JC Penney card; we don't have JC Penney here, but Sears is enough of the same idea, I think, and I shop at Sears about once every five years. And I've had it with Wal-Mart.
$10 cards for stores that sell little if anything under $10 are more coupons than gift certificates, which aren't fantastic presents.
A Wal-Mart gift card sounds like a gift for the paperboy, unless it's for $$$ and for a person who just moved or is otherwise likely to be in need of a wide assortment of mediocre-quality household what-not.
They're great if they're enough to buy something good with, and for a place that's genuinely enjoyed.
I'll have a minimum of $30 for a good bookstore, please...

I love getting them, but I read last week in the newspaper that 35% of all gift cards given as gifts are never redeemed, for whatever reason. So make sure you get cards for stores or restaurants your friends/family have nearby, and would actually shop at. Some cards have time limits, and fees are deducted after a certain time if they are not used immediately, so make sure to avoid that kind, if you can.

Gift Cards always make great Christmas presents. That way the recipient can buy whatever he or she desires.

I would give gift cards to friends, but I would search for appropriate gifts for my "best" friends. Never for family, except for older teens, they already have all the"STUFF" they want by now...so a gift card would be in order for them, also.

I love them, but I also know people who consider them an "easy way out" and are insulted by them. I wouldn't give one to a spouse or boy/girlfriend because it means more if you get them something that you thought of. They are perfect for a teenage nephew let's say, or even a teacher when you really don't know what to get them.
Gift cards/certificates from certain restaurants are good too. I usually get them from the local movie theatre too. (Or both, a dinner and a movie combo)

I know someone who receied a gift card to JC Penney. Unfortunately she also made it clear to the giver that it was of no use to her since she doesn't shop there. Oy vay!

i personaly don't like giving gift cards unless they are requested. i like to see the look on their faces when they open a special gift that they weren't expecting,or something hard to find that they wanted. but yes they are ok places, the mall has cards that you purchase, that is useable in any store tho. happy holidays.

i stumbled on it attainable to purchase those at a interior reach financial company. i'm from warren Ohio and there are 2 banks on the city that furnish those. probably the appropriate situation to do is call your interior reach banks and ask in the event that they provide them. Being this is the trip season your probability is likely tremendously solid. i offered one and it wasn't mandatory to have an account with the financial company.
