A novel is a book that tells a story, and is usually read for pleasure. A novel is a book, but a book is not necessarily a novel. A book could be a textbook, a children's book, a picture book, etc.

Keep in mind that a NOVEL (from French nouvelle, "new") is an extended fictional narrative in prose. Until the eighteenth century, the word referred specifically to short fictions of love and intrigue as opposed to romances, which were epic-length works about love and adventures.
The RAW definition of a BOOK...A book is a collection of paper, parchment or other material with a piece of text written on them, bound together along one edge, usually within covers. Each side of a sheet is called a page and a single sheet within a book may be called a leaf. A book is also a literary work or a main division of such a work.
Thus.. a novel is a novel is a book... A biography is a book... an autobiography is a book. .. A romance in writing is a book, etc

There isnt any difference really. A book is basically something with pages in it, and usually bound in some way.
A novel is a type of book, as to say a substancial piece of fiction, usually written by one author.
