Depends on what you mean by "can". If you're going to go to "check out the freaks", stay home. If you're going to go and flip out if someone hits on you, stay home. If you're going to go and continuously broadcast that you're straight to make up for your insecurities, stay home.
If you want to go and have a couple drinks, maybe meet some friends, or go WITH lesbian friends, by all means.
And, if you're not assinine about how you reject people, it's not a big deal. Are you mean if you go to a straight bar and reject advances from people you're not into? If you can't be polite about it, then yes it's mean and you should stay home. Or go to the myriad of bars that exist for straight people.
I guess I'm saying that no one can really stop you from going, but remember to tread carefully: that's no longer straight-people space (like the entire rest of the world that you're used to living in).

Yeah, you can go in without fear that they might try to convert you. Go with a friend. How do you know the women there will be making advances toward you? Why don't you want it to seem like you are just checking out a club? Isn't that exactly what you would be doing? Also, why do you go to the straight bar? Do you only go there to hook up with someone, or do you also go there to just meet with friends and have a good time? I'm positive that also happens at the gay bar. I'm straight, but I used to go to the gay bar with my gay friends a lot, because they were fun to party with, and I actually never had to worry about being hit on. It was a great place to have fun.

I think alot of straight women go to gay bars just for female companionship and to relax and let go of the "meat market' attitude at mixed bars where guys go trolling. They get up and dance and generally enjoy themselves. I also think you can let any lesbian know that you're just here to check the place out and have a good time in a pleasant way. If you're open to going into a gay bar, you're obviously open to making friends with GL people so go with or without a girlfriend and enjoy yourself. I'd love to go with you if I could! Godloveya.

I'm from the US and it's very common over here for straight people to go to gay bars. Often they're a lot of fun and the music's great. However, if you don't want women flirting with you, you might not want to go.

Of course there is no law stating that a straight person can't go into a gay bar, however, be sure that when you do decide to go, that you respect the people in it and their lifestyle. Don't judge them, because it was your choice to go in. If you should feel the need to reject, say that you're already taken or something :)
