Interested in your views on the sentence. It's of particular interest to me because it's local news. For those who would like to know, she made the allegations after having had consensual sex because she was worried she was pregnant. Story can be found at:

I once put a guy in prison for 5 years for raping me(he only got statutory). WIt was a very traumatizing time for me and the sentance isnt so brief. With this in mind Id have to say I think a woman like this should get the minimum sentance for a rape charge seeing how she rtried to force that jail term on an innocent man. He couldve been found guilty and wouldve had that label for his whole life, getting registered and not allowed in some housing/apartment complexes bc of it,job issues, time lost of his life. She deserves the same sentance, They were too easy on her.

If you are asking whether we agree that she should have been prosecuted for making false allegations, then I whole heartedly agree. We expect allegations to be taken seriously as this is an awful crime to commit. How can the police/ general public be expected to take it seriously when people cry wolf? For all the women/ children and men who have been raped and assaulted it is vital that people who makle false allegations are charged.
Also an allegation like that can really mess up the accused whole life, even when he is found not to be guilty, I couldn't support someone making the effort to ruin someone's life in this way at all.
Providing they are sure it is a false allegation, there should definately be a charge.

Good!! It is women like her that make false allegations that make it difficult for women with genuine cases to get their case to court and have their attacker punished!

Furthermore even when a man is cleared of rape they have to live with consequences of other people always wondering whether or not he did really do it!

Being a women myself I also find it extremely unfair by the recent news that a man can find himself up for an allegation of rape if he has sex with a woman who is extremely drunk and later claims rape on the grounds that she was too drunk too consent. It takes two to tango and if you are unable to make rational choices whilst drunk then such people should not drink! Why should a man take all the blame for having sex with a women when she is drunk? I think this is just being done in order to try and get more men convicted since most women are usually under the influence of alcohol when they claim to have been raped!

If this woman was not raped then she deserves everything she got. Its hard enough to get a rape case to the courts when it is required because its a very difficult thing to prove. People making false allegations are shallow and stupid, they ruin the lives of the person they falsely accused and make it more difficult for a genuine victim to get a conviction. Thank goodness the courts have stood up and said that its not on!

I have to say that I agree with most of the points raised here. This man has been through hell, not only the allegations - however unfounded - sticking, but he was held in custody after he was arrested and refused bail. Obviously if he was guilty then this is absolutely what should have been done, and as soon as the police realised she had been lying they released him, but how does he get those weeks of his life back and god knows what psychological damage that time alone would have done to him.

Accusing a man of a crime as hideous and with such stigma attached as rape just out of spite or fear of pregnancy should carry a harsher penalty than 6 months.

Hmm..., not cool the guy had to do jail time, but he's still a f'ing moron for having unprotected sex with a stranger he met in the street. I really can't say I feel sorry for him. As for her, that is just malicious to make up a story about something so serious and I am wondering if there is a law in the UK that you can't get an abortion unless you were raped? That would explain why she did it, otherwise I can't see what she would have to gain except for fame possibly, or her parents sake? Jail time seems like a hefty punishment but I don't feel sorry for her either. Fortunately they were able to uncover the truth about the situation though.

I think that its a good idea to sentence women for falsely claiming rape. Our laws in America are terribly biased to women. All a woman has to do is SAY "sexual harassment" and some poor guy will lose his job. It also goes into domestic abuse. A friend of mine got into a fight with his girlfriend, after which she got into a car and tried to run him over. He jumped onto the hood and reached into the drivers side window as she drove through the neighborhood and smashed her face into the steering wheel to get her to stop. When the police arrived, HE went to jail for assault with a deadly weapon, the car!
Women have to understand that even a false charge of rape or sexual harassment or abuse can ruin a mans life. Not to mention that it also discredits EVERY woman with a REAL claim of wrongdoing.

It is an appalling thing to have done to a man. Many women have made false accusations of this kind against men who found it very difficult to defend themselves and I am glad that this one has been dealt with justly by law. She will now realise just what she did to a fellow human being by making him spend all those months in prison. I hope that the fact that he has been vindicated will enable him to build up his life again, something which it is difficult to do when your life has been messed up by a period on remand facing serious charges. People usually lose their career prospects and their homes in the process. It was a horrible thing to do.

Seems appropriate. She made a false allegation, and damaged someone else's reputation beyond repair. There will always be people who say "well, there must have been something to it..."

She also made life MUCH harder for real victims of rape, who already have a hard time convincing juries where the rapist was someone she already knew or was dating.

This is disgusting,if the man had been convicted he would have been given at least five years and, this woman should have been given the same sentence.
This has happened quite a few times and its very unfair on the wrongly accused man because of the stigma attached to this sort of allegation,it wrecks families, people lose their jobs and it can put people off reporting genuine crimes such as this.
Lock her up for five years I say.
