To run a commercial laundry service, you'll need special equipment and licenses. The equipment is needed to super-heat the water, since you have to sustain a high level of heat to kill parasites and bacteria and ensure they don't pass from one customer to another. The state and local government have environmental requirements you'll need to meet regarding chemical use, emissions, etc. Also check with a local zoning board. Some localities require additional permits for home businesses.

Yes, But: Try finding a friend that needs laundry done. Start with theirs and you will have other friends wanting to get laundry done. Don't advertise it as a laundry service to avoid the hassles of the licenses, requirements, etc.

Tell them to have cash or a check made out to you when you deliver the clothes to them, supply them with an envelope with your name and amount on the front. But if they pay in advance they get a discount of some sort. You could call the other people who are doing this service and pretend your wanting their service and see what they do.
