You just cannot win in this country can you?
One minute they are asking us to protect and look after our wildlife then, they fine you for doing so.
I think the sooner this Labour Government is removed the better we will all be.
They have brought in so many laws even those that enforce them have a problem.

Whew! I thought you meant they passed a law against using the language here (USA). It's probably because of bird flu worries, and yes, local councils can be fascists, that's why local elections matter too. Preventing illegal smuggling of poultry is the issue, but infected birds are cruising the world's oceans on cargo freighters from the whole Asian region, as meals and trade goods, they already have been exposed and don't care about the rest of the world. We should be screening international travelers too, use quarrantine if needed, and have shelters for people to stay at should they have to ground flights or halt trains to outbreak areas, every hour a pandemic is slowed is more time to get medical supplies and facilities ready to save lives. So if not feeding the ducks helps, you have to be patient. It's better than their having to cull all the poultry and wildfowl.

I don't know the system in the UK, but here in Canada, if City Council tried to pull that kind of crap they would be told very quickly were to go. In most cases it would hurt the lower income families as taking the kids to the parks to feed the ducks etc. is a cheap, yet healthy way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Would the Labour gov't in London have anything to do with it though?

Do you actually have a source for this story? As far as I'm aware, this is only happening on the harbourfront at Whitehaven where there is a particularly big problem with bird droppings and rotting food and littering bin bags. They will also not be instituting the fines immediately but will have an intermediate period to allow people to get used to the idea. Please don't start spouting reactionary rantings without having any backup info available - it's totally unhelpful and pointless.

I have never heard that law, surely they can't be serious, you take you're kids/grandkids to the park to be kind to birds/swans and ducks, the councillors must be running out of reasons to fine people

The reason is that the food is rarely eaten by the birds but instead by rats, pigeons and seagulls (both rats of the skies in my opinion), I'd rather not feed the ducks than let my child play in rat infested parks! Fines are a bit much but how else do you stop people!

Not sure what your question is but I agree with your point and it is crazy that people are actually spending time and (taxpayer) money in coming up with this stupid ideas when there are far more important issues in this country such as crime to deal with.
