If the heater core is leaking/clogged, you'd want to just replace the heater core. The part isn't that expensive, but the labor is brutal as they have to disassemble your dashboard to get to the heater core. I believe on most vehicles, a heater core is around 8 hours of labor. The part is roughly 30$ from a store like autozone, roughly 60$ from the dealer.

And yes, the make/model makes alot of difference. The heater core for my boyfriends 1993 Nissan 240SX is almost 400$, whereas yours is about 70$.

depending on what your car blue book value is, its cheaper to replace the car. I had a 1991 pontiac grand am and the heater core alone is around $50.00 and a royal pain to change.

Usually you just replace the defective component. Not the whole system. So, it depends what's wrong with it.
