it's something universal to see toilets dedicated to men others dedicated to women. one can see the infamous sex sign residing on doors of toilets.
is there a reasonable explanation? at what point of history did this toilet segregation appear?

I don't know. My dad went to africa when he was working as a journo and said that in one place it was so divided that it was 'European gentlemen' and 'European ladies' and 'Orietal gentlemen' and 'Oriental ladies'. Not such a bad idea though because the euro toilets were the ones you're probably used to and the oriental toilets are the standard sqatters that you can find as far west as S. Italy.
It's probably just for comfort. So places here in france have a row of urinals for the men and some cubicals opposite them for the ladies.

adult males are actually not grimy! yet we do have urinals with the aid of fact we don't could desire to take a seat down to drain our bladder. i could hate to be status there and have a team of girls human beings walk in collectively as i became into making use of the urinal. you're certainly not a guy. in view which you would be attentive to there is not any privateness in a guy's bathing room. women human beings use stalls or finished inclosures. adult males hardly do. women human beings like extra privateness adult males merely prefer to get it over with. We wash our palms and we are sparkling, adult males are actually not grimy. despite the fact that, i does not prefer to take my daughters into the adult males's bathing room.

Who knows. In Paris, they have little stalls (similar to telephone booths) on almost every corner for men but not for women.

Same reason there are seperate fitting rooms in malls. Same reason mens and women's locker rooms are seperated. It's about privacy.
