When ever I get back from holiday I am always ill. Sometimes it is a bad throat, sometimes an upset stomach; sometimes earache. Its usually bad enough to keep me in bed for a couple of days. I have tried not swimming in the sea or snorkelling two days before returning. I'm always careful about what I eat and drink but somehow I always manage to feel quite unwell and it takes me a good week to return to normal health. Any suggestions which would help me avoid this in the future?

The reason we get sick when we're on holiday is that the local bacteria are new to us so they upset our system until we get used to them. Once you've got used to them you need to reacquaint yourself with the bacteria back home. Take it slow, drink mineral water, stay away from salads, all the things you normally do on holiday, for the first couple of weeks.

Also stay well hydrated, lots and lots of water, to combat both the change in climate and the plane journey.

You can also try taking lots of Vitamin C.

Good luck

Swimming in hotel pools that are not looked after properly if at all. Swimming in the sea that is polluted. And the most likely is the recirculated air in an aircraft sends all the on board germs around the whole aircraft and you take it right in as you breathe.

It's the air conditioning on the Airplane, every passengers cough and splutter is sucked up and sent back out to all the others, therefore any airbourne viruses they have you get. Cheap part on the airlines to not have any filtering system.

Lemsips i'm afraid. Hope you feel better soon

1. Air conditioning in the plane.
2. You overdo it on holiday.

Where do you go on holiday?
If there is change in climate you can get ill, like going from somewhere humid area to a dry hot climate or if you travel abroad then you may be getting food allergies/poisoning.

How to avoid it is not to fly.

The plane is the most likely place to get bugs, due to the air quality.

It was not as bad when they allowed smoking on planes, as they would clean the air more often.
