I'm planning on dancing 4 times a week, tennis two times a week, and I'm just wondering if dancing will make my thighs bigger, and I do NOT, NOT want that to happen, and I am dead serious. The type of dancing is hip hop or fast dancing, same thing. If it will make my thighs bigger, then how do I make my thighs skinny/thin/SLIM, not big/toned/MUSCULAR, please.
By the way, my thighs arent those kinds of thighs that are just really flabby. They are kind of firm because of tennis, but it is big, compared to other girls in my school, whom most have skinny thighs that when they walk there's a space in between their upper legs. I know that there is muscle in there, and I do not want to make it bigger. Somebody please help me! :(

I've never heard of such things as thighs getting big because of dancing. Besides, it is not the type of exercise that can possibly build big huge muscles. You migh want to study up on body building, how it's done and what it takes. This way, you won't be worried about dancing making your thighs bigger. If anything, dancing will make them toned and slim.
Now, if you want skinny thighs without muscles, like those with space between them - you should stop using your legs, LOL, quit that tennis of yours as well. No, you can't really have space between your legs and use your legs for a lot of dancing and tennis. It is crazy to me that someone whould actually want space between their thighs. Yeah, this is fasionable "model" look nowdays, but would you trade that for tennis and dancing? Fashion changes. Would you keep changing your body to follow the fasion? 50 yers ago it would be considered ugly. Who knows, maybe 20 years from now it will be ugly again. Keep in mind that a lot of it, like people said, is also in your genetics. You don't have to look like other girls in your school. I guess I was lucky because I was not the only one with muscles in my school - I had 2 girls in my class who later became nationally ranked gymnasts.

I worked for a dance company and dancers do not have "big" thighs! They have muscular thighs but because they do a lot of stretching, but the muscles are not bulky. Two things give you slim thighs: the gene pool you were born into and a low body weight. Disco dancing should not change the size of your thighs very much but it wil help to tone up the muscles. The thigh muscles are big, strong muscles by nature and need a lot of work to change the shape of them. If you do not have slim legs by nature, then you'll have to do a lot of work and sacrifice a lot of calories to get them that way. Look at your mother and grandmother. These will be the best indicators of whether or not it is even possible to do. All of that being said, strong legs look fabulous, regardless of the size. Thin legs just look "skinny." Go for strong legs.

A lot depends on your genetics. Correct technique in any sort of dancing will tone your legs up not make them bigger. Talk with your dance instructor for some advice.

i think it depends on your body type and your technique. i've read other people's answers to your questions and i'm a little surprised. i've done ballet for about 10 years and i must admit i and many classmates have gotten bigger thighs...but they're not significantly bigger. as i said, it probably depends...just be sure to get the technique and proper execution right, that might be a big factor. and ask your dance teacher too.

Yes or no depends on your diet. If the dance has a lots of squad or tip toe moves, your calves and thighs will be bigger.
If you are fat, your fat will be burned. If you are lean, you will have muscles.

if you want thin thighs, do ballet or pilates. I extremely suggest pilates. Both give you long lean muscles that are still extremely strong. hip hop can, not in all situations, but in most, bulk up your leg muscles. but give it a try to see how your body reacts. just go out, get a mat, and a dvd of pilates (make sure it's beginners and not Denise Austin, she's good but annoying) and do it in your own living room.

no dance dose not make them fat - you know you could just join the gym. it also depends on how long you dance if you dance 30min. a day that would be better then just dancing 3 hours in one day. plus if you run that helps too!

Look at ballerina's and all those skinny dancers out there! I think it is all about body type and the type of work you are putting your muscles thru.
