You learn from your mistakes. If your older sibling never made a mistake, s/he'll never learn and crash big time when failure happens.

Well, in my case I had a younger sibling who was better at everything. It probably wouldn't have mattered too much if my parents hadn't obviously favored him.

I'm not really sure. In my case it's the other way around. I have a younger sister. Actually she's not better than me at everything, she's just the favorite.

Don't be so bitter. Figure out what you are good at and focus on that. For the record my little brother is a talented artist and musician but I don't hold it against him that I suck at those things,I still give it my best shot though.

Jealousy and rivalry - also a lot of resentment of never feeling like you can live up to them. You are you and they are them - you will be better and different at other things - don't worry and just be yourself - don't try to be them.
