I lived in another Norwegian city, Stavanger, for 4 years. Within Norway, it's costs are near the top except for housing where Oslo and Bergen are more expensive.
A McDonald's meny (aka "value" meal) costs 65 NOK. A beer in a pub costs 45 NOK. McDonalds doesn't vary much, being strictly-run franchises. Beer specials might in some places go as low as 25 NOK, or as high as 55 NOK. 45 NOK is much more normal. A pint of Guiness will set you back 55 NOK usually. A bottle of beer from a supermarket costs 10 NOK (Tuborg and Norwegian beers).
Cost of living is high, overall, but wages are usually good. Keep in mind that your employer is obliged to withhold 50% of all earnings until you arrange a tax card. Depending on wages, the total amount of tax you end up paying will likely be somewhere around 35% on the low end, to 48% on the high end. This includes pension contributions and obligatory health coverage. If you own a car, road tax adds about 3000 NOK per year for a smallish car. TV tax will set you back about 2000 NOK for year if own a telly.
As of today's rate, 10 Norwegian Kroner (NOK) = 82 pence,
so 100 NOK = 8 Pound, 20p
and 1000 NOK = 82 Pound thereabouts.
So an average beer at 45 NOK would be about 3 pound 70p, and an average "value" meal at McD's would set you back about 5 pound 35p.

Hi, how about an answer from someone who actually stayed there?
Oslo is very expensive. I would say more expensive than London and definatly Paris. A Mc Donald's value meal should sell at about $18. I once had a meal with my g.f in Burger King and we paid $80!!. Food is extraordinarily expensive, rent is also on the expensive side, a small apartment near the city should be in the range of $1,500. A beer, depends on the pub but should be in the range of $10-15.
On the other hand, clothing is not expensive, It is probably cheaper than most European countires.
In general the standard of living in Norway is the best in the world. You make a lot of money, but you pay 40% of your income as taxes, but you do get your money's worth. Education, roads, hospitals etc are free and accessible. It is a succesful socialist model.

my friend is from there and she says it is so expensive. It's probably on a par with London. Alohol etc... is more expensive than here. But it's in proportion to the wages as they're very high
