With Maria Lopez teaching Spanish in every other episode and with most of the other judges( with the exception of Judge Alex,who seems to be the only serious,non-arrogant one in the bunch) who seem to be acting more than ruling,are they playing for the camera or is this how they are away from the camera?

you are right ....they are all acting out for the camera....except for the alex dude.

I'm not familiar with Maria Lopez, but that "Judge" Akim really panders to Hollywood.
We dig Judge Judy, and I'm sure she'd have a few things about the other TV judges who ham it up for the camera.
In order of best: Judge Judy; The People's Court (Judge Milan), and Judge Joe Brown.
Joe Brown has changed since he first started. He used to be a no-nonsense kinda guy, but he panders to the camera more often than not nowadays.
I believe a certain sense of decorum is still needed in the courtroom.

i think judge judy is just awful!!!! she sees the people walk in and decides fromt here which one she likes better and treats the other one like crap and won't listen to anything they have to say!!! i am not sure if she does this just for the camera or if she is just truely a mean person all the time....my bet would be that she is just mean to everyone!!!!!!

It's television. They're all actors to greater and lesser degrees...even the ones you like. It's not "reality" tv, it's just tv.
Everyone (even those who lose their cases) is paid. Ratings are the goal...that is, getting as many people to watch the show so that they will view the paid advertisements.
Note: The same is true of all programs we refer to as "reality" tv. None of them involve any reality whatsoever.
