I replied to a post from someone here a few days ago regarding custody and in my answer I referred to previous posts from the asker because she didn't give enough details in he question. I only gave my honest opinion and it wasn't very favourable to her. This morning I reveived a vilolation notice that this was not a question or an answer.
Of course I can't be sure the asker was the one who reported this "violation" but I couldn't think of a reason anyone else would do it. Sometimes people ask serious questions on here and users spend time and energy writing detailed answers. When they read previous posts from the same asker, they often find very conflicting information and realise that they are makig up problems. One user on here changes his/her gender, age, marital status, home and everything in each question but is asking very serious questions.
I would advice anyone to read other posts from the asker before answering serious questions. Don't waste yor sympathy on players

Just to avoid misunderstanding, I'm not upset that I got reported for this. I just think it's strange that members can report others for good answers and let them lose points. It is very obvious that Yahoo doesn't read the abuse reports, if they did, they would have banned a lot more people from this site and they wouldn't accept the "not a quesiont or answer" for a perfectly legitimate answer.
I don't care about the points, I have more points than I need to ask, answer and vote on more questions than I have time for.

Good point, you really have to read, what you are answering. I had "a violation" the other day, and i feel, it might have been a truthful answer, but it hurt the dishonest person, I was referring to.

I have never had a violation notice but I would be upset if I had, as I only try to answer the question and this I do only if I believe that I have the experience or knowledge to do so.
I never try to be flippant as with few exceptions the asker really does want a sensible answer without innuendo or explicit wording.
Keep going though as this is in reality a very informative site.

I know what you mean. Answered a really serious question the other day to find that an hour later the same person asked the question again but with different information... it didn't make any sense and wound me up because i spent time answering their question when it looks like they made it up in the first place.
Love the joke questions, always make me smile but when people are asking about serious topics that actually affect other peoples lives then why bother making it up? It infuriates me!
But in answer to your question i haven't reported (or been reported myself) though! X

I too have been reported for giving honest answers.
If the askers in not open for honest answers they shouldn't ask the question in the first place. Must admit though there are some very funny and witty people out there.

hmm yeah that does happen ... thats why dont take any of the questions too personally ... especially when it comes to serious or legal matters ... i never answers question on life and death situations (again dat subject is very relative) .. nonetheless i tend to stay away from question which say - i am gonna kill myself or i am gonna commit suicide today ... the same way keep away from legal serious questions as if people want answers to those kinda problem then yahoo answers probably isnt the best place ... they should research on the internet and they have exclusive forums for that ... i am sorry that u got stabbed when all you were trying to do is help someone ... then again we live and learn ... but dont let that stop you from answering and helping other people ...

I report abuse, both in answers and questions. It's not to be mean, but I don't think that insulting or abusive comments should be left there, especially when somebody has asked a reasonable question and they get a load of negative abuse from some childish person. None of us deserve that; it brings us down and we need lifting up!

I just right answers to the best of my knowleage & if that happened to me I would reply to the complaint & let the offials make the disision if I get or lose the points, cause everything u write is perament & they can look @ everything people have typed, even if they delete it. They also are very fair & know all the abuser on here.

Yahoo needs to institute a new rule. If you report anybody, you lose a 100 pts. Maybe that would put a stop to these people who report anything and everythnig. Just a thought. I've been reported a few times but I have not reported anyone, I try to stay above that.

It happens, unfortunately. One of my friends is constantly reported by someone and she can't even give an answer or question. Now she's basically gone from this site.
Personally, I only report spammers. In the name of free speech I hold myself back, although I would often like to report liars who only want to cite hatred.
P. S. : Now I'm going to report you because I don't like your question! :)
