An orgasm helps, it doesn't necessarily mean having sex which has worked for me.

Any type of exercise works wonders for that time of the month. It seems with me the more exercise I get in before I start the less painful it is and it doesn't last as long either.
Also believe it or not cranberry juice helps with the cramps if you drink while your on that time.
Taking long baths as well helps with the aching.

Any sort of exercise ought to help. Sometimes I just jog around the house and it makes the cramps disappear.

The worse thing to do when in pain is nothing. The more you think about it, the more tense you get, the worst it gets.
So just do something else.
